Olympias Music is a multi-award-winning charity which brings music to communities in Manchester. We believe that everyone should be given the opportunity to participate in music-making and engage with music, regardless of background or income, and that these encounters can be life-changing.
Since 2015, we have delivered over 1400 free music lessons to over 154 children in the community, engaging hundreds more children and vulnerable adults through choirs, workshops and performances. In 2017, we won the Grassroots Champion category of the national Community Integration Awards. At the inaugural Manchester Culture Awards in November 2018, we were awarded the Promotion of Equality and Diversity prize in recognition of our work with children, refugees, asylum seekers and vulnerable adults.
In May 2019, Arts Council England awarded us £23K for our latest project, Making Manchester - a multi-media performance exploring real-life migration stories to UK, as told by 60 pupils from DTA secondary school, through music, poetry and physical theatre. In December, we were awarded the Creativity in the Community Prize at the Be Proud Awards 2019.
